NEWS: Rome officially candidate for 2024 Olympic Games

Olimpiadi LogoYesterday, the 240th National Meeting of CONI (National Olympic Committee)took place into the Auditorium of the Italian stand of the EXPO, in Milan.

Rome 2014 was amongst the topics discussed; the president of the CONI, Giovanni Malagò, announced that the resolution for the candidacy of the capital to the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2024 was formally approved by the board of the CONI, as well as from the Assembly of the Capital.



The importance of this manifestation onto an urbanistic level, and for its values, was underlined by the major of Rome, Marino, who was present at the council himself; Luca di Montezemolo, president of the Promoter Committee for Rome 2024, highlighted how such an occasion is both a celebration for the sport and a chance for the athletes to be exalted and remembered, as it happened for Rome ’60.

Moreover, he revealed how a benchmarking activity has been performed: such method is based on systematic confrontation used to compare oneself with the best and to learn from them; in this case, it was used on three different editions of the Olympic Games, such as Barcellona, Sydney and London.

Eventually, the resolution for the candidacy of the capital has been voted and unanimously approved from all the 64 members.
