NEWS: Keyan IAAF Council Member investigated for funds theft

After the Russia affair and Lamine Diack’s arrest, here is another internal case regarding IAAF, which will have to work quite a lot to re-establish its integrity.


David Okeyo, IAAF Council Member and vice-president of Athletics Kenya (AK) was put under investigations with the allegation of having stolen funds from a sponsorship agreement between Nike and AK itself.

IAAF rapidly published a statement: “IAAF did not know about investigations regarding Mr.Okeyo in Kenya. Information has been rapidly sent forward to the ethic indipendent commision of the Federation”. On their website is published a list of FAQ on the topic.


Sebastian Coe, at this regard, stated that he will name a commission capable of evaluating the moral integrity degree of those who, in future, will work in IAAF offices, so that this really dark period will not be repeated anymore.

Nike said its opinion as well. In fact, a spokeperson defended the prestigious brand, explaining how it acted correctly in the relationship with AK and that the sponsorships funds would have been intended for teams and athletes.
